Friends of the Council:
Like you, we have been keeping up with the ever-changing landscape regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re working to alter our programming in line with federal, state and local health advisories, and with the policies of the campuses and venues at which we do our presentations.
As you might suppose, our upcoming presenters are being advised not to travel, so we have been working with Lindsey Sheppard of CSIS (our artificial intelligence expert on March 16-17) and Margaret Myers (our China in Latin America expert on March 23-24) on alternative delivery of their programs. (And hope to do the same with Sonia Nazario for March 30-31.)
We have arranged for both Lindsey and Margaret to present live at our usual times: Mondays at 6 p.m. and Tuesdays at 12 noon. These presentations will be available live on YouTube, with the typical World Affairs Council ability to send in a question of the speaker-experts. And you’ll also be able to catch the presentations afterwards as an archived video. Go to our World Affairs Council YouTube channel link at one of the two times listed above to participate: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz_-CQkZ3VwjGkysvMu-P3g.
If you are an educator who uses the series in the classroom, a remote-partner that hosts a gathering of people to watch the series, or an organization that hosts its own internal livestream, please feel empowered to disseminate the above YouTube link in your networks.
To contribute to the local effort of social distancing, we’re cancelling any on-site, in-person Council events for the rest of the month—and that may go on longer as we get updated on COVID-19 in West Michigan. So you won’t find anyone at the usual Aquinas and Calvin locations for Great Decisions for the remainder of the series.
You’ll still have a chance to see and interact with our remaining Great Decisions speakers, however—live on our YouTube channel. Please join us for these important global conversations that affect our community. One of the lessons of COVID-19 is that we share one world, and what affects one part of the globe impacts us all.
While corporate, senator and educational members have always attended our live events free of charge, we have charged an admission fee to our general membership. For the remainder of the series, there’s no charge for anyone to tune in to these virtual presentations. However, if you’d like to help the Council with Great Decisions expenses, we’d be appreciative. Thanks, all, for your support! To donate, go here.
Stay safe, keep well and may grace and peace prevail for all amid this worry and turmoil.
